United Supermarket To Close!

Here within the confines of Altus, we have a grand total of 3 Supermarkets and a commissary. We have 2 United Supermarkets, 1 Wal-Mart and of course, the Base Commissary. Starting on the 18th of this month, United located on North Main will have a store wide sale. This won't be just any kind of a sale, it will be a Closing Sale. Yes, you did read that right. United on North Main will close its doors on the 25th of this month.

Located up and down the isles, you'll find many items that just can't be had, at other location. They provide them hard to get items that really isn't that pricey. The store has to my memory, always been clean and well stocked. Your always greeted at the door which makes this almost a real rarity in todays world. Heck, they even bag your items and take them out to your car!

What happened here? Why is a local icon being closed? Well we turn back the clock a few years where we see, a Homeland Supermarket. Like most new places, it will draw quite a large crowd. Funny thing was, hardly anyone went back again. Why? The selection of items was few and limited. The meat department, was found to be injecting large amounts of water into the packaged products. So much water, that you could see it and almost hear it, sloshing about in the container. Believe me, I am not exaggerating! Needless to say, Homeland was lucky to have lasted 6 months, before closing up shop!

Several years passed when news had it, Homeland bought out United. Jokes were being told that if Homeland failed, then it wouldn't take much longer for them to close at least 1 United Store. It does appear that this has indeed, become a true fact.

Its been learned, a supermarket will never again be located within this same building. But, this same building will be divided up into several smaller stores.

Keith Dodson, owner of the Drug Store stated they will remain open but relocate about a block away. Negotiations are sill in progress. Believe it or not, the Drug Store has been located within the Bunker Hill Shopping Center, since 1961.

Your Altus Mystery Shopper...

UPDATE: I have it by excellent authority, that if business fails to pickup at the Broadway United, then it will fall by the wayside, just as United on Main has. If for some reason this does become fact, that will only leave the Wal-Mart as the only local source for civilian food shopping.
