Medi-Flight Leaving Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY -- There are changes on the horizon for the Mediflight helicopter based in Oklahoma City. OU Medical Center says that helicopter will now be based out of Stillwater.

They say it makes more sense since most of the helicopter needs are more rural. Both OU Medical officials and EMSA officials tell us the helicopter is only used about twice a month in the Metro.

Most of the emergencies are handled by EMSA. OU Medical Center owns Mediflight and contracts with Air Methods out of Denver for the helicopters and pilots.

This decision was made jointly by the two entities. They believe the move will be cost effective and offer better care.

Most of the Mediflight employees affected will be switched into different positions. A handful of employees will lose their jobs.

As mentioned in the news story, its being said Oklahoma could receive far better and faster medi-service. Just the other day, we just so happened to be passing by the Jackson County Memorial Hospital, when we spotted a medi-flight parked upon the landing pad. We parked kinda close, dug out our cameras and this is what we had seen.

Believe me when I say, the men and women who provide this life saving service, are all heroes!
